Program overview
The Intensive English Online (ELPI-O) program is a part of the English Language Centre's ELC Connect suite, designed to provide a high-quality online learning experience. This program focuses on enhancing academic English skills across three class levels, ensuring students receive comprehensive guidance from UVic instructors. The curriculum emphasizes crucial language areas such as Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. Students engage in both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (self-paced) learning activities, allowing for a flexible yet structured approach to language acquisition. Program structure
The Intensive English Online program is designed to be customizable, with a recommended schedule of 11 weeks. This includes:
- 10 instructional weeks with a focus on intensive learning.
- 20 hours of study per week, totaling 200 study hours.
- A one-week break during the program, specifically a Reading Break at week 7.
Students will participate in both synchronous and asynchronous learning activities. The program is tailored for students at the Intermediate to Advanced levels, specifically those with a CEFR level ranging from A2+ to B2 for entry and B1 to B2+ for exit. Additionally, students will have access to UVic's digital library resources and can participate in optional Social Connect activities, enhancing their learning experience.
