The Master of Arts in Criminology at the University of Ottawa is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of crime, justice, and social control. Program structure

The Master of Arts in Criminology offers several distinct options, each designed to cater to different academic and professional aspirations. The program structure includes:

  • Option with Thesis: This option requires the completion of a thesis and three elective courses, totaling 30 units.
  • Option with Thesis and Field Placement: Available to students in the thesis option, this includes a field placement seminar and a 360-hour field placement, also totaling 30 units.
  • Option with Major Research Paper: This option consists of a major research paper and four elective courses, totaling 24 units. A field placement can be included if available.
  • Option with Courses: This option allows students to choose between a courses-only profile or a courses and field placement profile, totaling 24 units.

Students are expected to complete the M.A. with thesis within two years (6 semesters) and the M.A. with Major Research Paper or Courses options within one year (3 semesters). The program also offers a collaborative specialization in Women’s Studies and a double degree option with Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium.
