Academic Requirements

For the Master of Applied Computer Science (course-based) program, the Academic Requirements are as follows:

Minimum GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required for admission.

International Students: International applicants must provide the following documentation:

Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
Proof of degree equivalency to a Canadian bachelor's degree.

Language Requirements

At St. Francis Xavier University, proof of English language proficiency is a requirement for applicants whose first language is not English. This requirement is applicable regardless of the applicant's country of origin, citizenship status, or language of instruction. The university reserves the right to request proof of language proficiency as a condition of acceptance.

For students applying from countries where English is not an official language, it is typically necessary to submit a recognized English language proficiency test. The test results must be no older than two years at the time of application to be considered valid.

IELTS: 6.5 overall and no lower than 6.0 in each band (Accepting IELTS One Skill Retake)
TOEFL: 90 iBT and no lower than 20 in each band. MyBest Scores accepted.
MET: 55
CAEL: 70 overall and no lower than 60 in each band
C1 Advanced: 180 overall and no lower than 170 in each band
C2 Proficiency: 180 overall and no lower than 170 in each band
Duolingo: 115 with no integrated subscore lower than 100
Pearson Test of English – Academic: 60 overall with no score below 50
Oxford ELLT Digital: 7 overall and no lower than 6 in each band
Oxford ELLT Global: 7 overall and no lower than 6 in each band

Students may be exempt from providing proof of English language proficiency if they meet certain criteria, such as having studied for the last two years in an English-speaking high school or university, or if they have successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma with English Language A.

If an applicant's test scores fall below the minimum requirement but they meet other admission criteria, they may be offered admission into the English for Academic Purposes program, which allows for conditional admission into a bachelor’s degree program upon successful completion of the EAP program.
