Earn your Agribusiness focused applied degree (Bachelor of Applied Science - BASc) in a minimum of 16 additional months. This program is designed for students who have completed a two-year diploma in agriculture or a related discipline with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Agribusiness is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a period of 16 months following the completion of a two-year diploma. The program includes:

8 months of classroom learning at Olds College.
8 months of a paid, mentored Directed Field Study with an employer approved by Olds College.

Academic Requirements

To gain admission into the Bachelor of Applied Science Degree - Agribusiness program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Minimum GPA of 2.5 in a diploma or degree from a field of study in agriculture, agriculture technology/mechanics, land, environment, or other agriculturally related fields of study.
Alternatively, a minimum GPA of 2.5 in any field of study, along with a statement of interest and a resume outlining previous work and education experience. The statement should include:

Transferable or relevant agricultural skills and knowledge (e.g., agriculture production, animal care, agriculture technology, leadership, or entrepreneurship in an agricultural environment).
Community or volunteer experience in agriculture or rural living.
A description of how the Bachelor of Applied Science - Agribusiness program will help achieve education and career goals, specifically related to agriculture and agribusiness.

The applicant’s resume should confirm these relevant agricultural skills, knowledge, and experiences.
Directed Field Study Required: An 8-month Directed Field Study is undertaken upon successful completion of all third-year courses. Students will develop individualized learning plans and complete the study based on their learning goals. Upon completion, each student will submit all required final assignments.
International Students in this program will require a Co-Op Permit, a Study Permit, and a Social Insurance Number for participation in the Directed Field Study.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

The language of instruction at Olds College is English. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate that they have completed at least three years of academic study conducted entirely in English.

Applicants who do not meet this requirement must demonstrate language proficiency through successful completion of an accepted English Language proficiency assessment dated within two years of application submission. All English Language Proficiency Assessments will be verified online by an Admission Officer.

Accepted English Language Proficiency Assessments include:

Duolingo English Test - score of at least 110
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) IBT - overall score of no less than 80 with no academic section below 18
International English Language Testing System (IELTS - Academic Stream) - a score of 6.0 or higher in each band
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) Online - overall score of no less than 60, with no band below 50
Pearson Test of English (PTE) - score of at least 55 with no skill profile below 55
Oxford English Language Level Test (ELLT) - no band below 5, with an overall score of no less than 6
