University Certificate - Appliance Service Technician

Academic Requirements

The following program admission requirements apply for the Certificate in Appliance Service Technician:

• English:
  • English 10 with a minimum grade of ‘C’ (or equivalent), or
  • Composition 10 with a minimum grade of ‘C’ (or equivalent), or
  • Creative Writing 10 with a minimum grade of ‘C’ (or equivalent), or
  • Literary Studies 10 with a minimum grade of ‘C’ (or equivalent), or
  • English First Peoples Writing 10 with a minimum grade of ‘C’ (or equivalent), or
  • English First Peoples Literary Studies 10 with a minimum grade of ‘C’ (or equivalent), or
  • KPU’s Vocational Trades English Reading Assessment Part II with a minimum score of 50%.
• Mathematics:
  • Any Math 10 with a minimum grade of ‘C’ (or equivalent), or
  • KPU’s Vocational Trades Mathematics Assessment with a minimum score of 20%.
• Interview by an instructor.

Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.67 for all required courses.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

• Freezers
• Air Conditioners
• BC Provincial "C" Gas Certificate
• 2 Week Work Practicum

Language Requirements

To apply for the University Certificate - Appliance Service Technician program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following accepted tests:

• KPU English Placement Test (EPT) with placement into ENGL 1100
• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): Score of 70 or higher with no sub score less than 60, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
• Duolingo English Test: Score of 110 or higher, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test: overall band of 6.5 or higher, with a minimum 6.0 in each band, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
• Pearson Test of English (PTE): Score of 61 or higher, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): iBT 88 or higher, with no sub score less than 20, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
• Accuplacer: Reading score of 260, Writing score of 250 and WritePlacer Essay score of 6, or higher, taken within the last 2 years from the term of admission
