Fanshawe's Doula Studies certificate offers career-focused training to provide emotional and physical support before, during, and after pregnancy. This innovative program is the first of its kind in Ontario, taking an evidence-informed and reproductive justice approach to doula training. Graduates are prepared for a rewarding career supporting families throughout their reproductive journey, fulfilling an essential role as trusted sources of information and support during childbirth.

Program Structure

The Doula Studies program is designed to be completed in 30 weeks, delivered over two 15-week terms. This structure allows students to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience essential for their future careers. Key features of the program include:

  • Hands-on experience through community placements and practical learning opportunities.
  • Weekly community drop-in sessions for new and expectant parents, providing students with real-world teaching experience.
  • Focus on developing ethical, culturally safe, and client-centered doula practices.
  • Introduction to business management concepts, preparing students for self-employment as doulas.

Students will engage in a curriculum that emphasizes the dynamic role of the doula within a complex healthcare system, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future careers.
