Academic Requirements

To apply for the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Police Studies at Conestoga College, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

• An Ontario College Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree or equivalent with a minimum 60% average.

For international students, particularly those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, the following requirements apply:

• Canadian citizens and permanent residents with transcripts from outside Canada require a course-by-course credential evaluation. You can request this at a reduced fee through the college by completing the Assessment of International Credentials for Admissions and Credit Transfer online form, or through an approved provider such as ICAS or WES.
• Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Additionally, there are specific program requirements that must be fulfilled:

• Mandatory work-integrated learning (WIL) document requirements must be completed by students prior to student WIL experiences. Successful WIL completion is required for students to progress to program completion. To qualify for WIL experiences, students must present the following at the start of the program in accordance with pre-admission information provided by the College:
  • Standard First Aid and CPR – level C.
  • A Police Check for Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS). Police Checks must be clear of any unpardoned criminal offences. An unclear finding will result in the inability to participate in WIL experiences which will jeopardize completion of the program.
• Prior to commencing the first WIL experience in week 10, students must present documentation of standard first aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)/AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Level C certification.
• Applicants are advised that an individual’s driving history, illicit drug use, criminal associations, and other personal behaviors may disqualify an individual from completing a placement and consideration as a police officer.

Language Requirements

To apply for the Graduate Certificate - Advanced Police Studies (1212) program at Conestoga College, you must provide proof of English proficiency in one of the following ways:

• IELTS Academic: 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0)
• TOEFL: 88 (Effective January 2024, no individual skill less than 22)
