Program Overview

The Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS) at Carleton University is a pioneering program in Canada that focuses on both global and international perspectives. This program equips students with the necessary skills to analyze and understand complex global issues through a diverse range of subjects. With a strong emphasis on real-world applications, students will engage with various stakeholders and gain insights into international relations, economics, and cultural studies. The program is designed to foster critical thinking and effective communication, preparing graduates for a variety of career paths in an increasingly interconnected world.

Program Structure

The Bachelor of Global and International Studies program is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a period of four years. Students are required to complete a total of 120 credits to graduate. The program includes:

  • A second-language requirement, allowing students to learn languages such as Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and American Sign Language.
  • An international experience requirement, which can be fulfilled through options such as studying abroad, international internships, or participating in group projects.
  • A Co-op option that provides students with practical work experience, enhancing their employability skills and career exploration.
  • 15 specializations that allow students to tailor their studies to their interests, covering themes such as Global Development, International Economic Policy, and Global Politics.
