Program Overview

The Police Foundations program at Cambrian College is designed to enrich your application for a career in law enforcement through comprehensive post-secondary training. This program offers a unique blend of in-class assignments, guest speakers, scenario training, fitness components, and community involvement. With guidance from faculty who are former and current law enforcement officers, students will be well-prepared to pursue careers in local, provincial, Indigenous, or federal law enforcement. Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to write their Security Guard and Private Investigation licenses, enhancing their job readiness and portfolio through various community activities and events.

Program Structure

The Police Foundations program is structured to provide a thorough education over a period of 4 semesters (2 years). The program is delivered on-campus and is full-time, ensuring an immersive learning experience. Key features of the program structure include:

  • Integration of physical fitness throughout the curriculum to prepare students for police services fitness testing.
  • Guest speakers from various law enforcement agencies to provide real-world insights.
  • Multiple opportunities for community engagement through service learning and volunteerism.
  • A capstone course in the final semester that enhances the student’s portfolio through a unique Work Integrated Learning experience.
  • Options to earn additional certifications, such as Safe Talk and Situational Awareness.
  • Opportunity to earn a second diploma in another public safety program within one year after graduation.
