Academic Requirements

For admission to the Bachelor of Arts and Science - Economics & Biological Sciences (Optional Co-op) program at the University of Lethbridge, the following requirements must be met:

Canadian high school students in Alberta must have completed five of the following courses with a minimum 65% average across them:

Required Course: English Language Arts 30-1
Three of the following courses are required:
- Aboriginal Studies 30
- Art 30 or Art 31
- Biology 30
- Chemistry 30
- Choral Music 30, General Music 30, or Instrumental Music 30
- Dance 35
- Drama 30
- Mathematics 30-1 or Mathematics 30-2
- Mathematics 31
- Physics 30
- Science 30
- Social Studies 30-1
- Five credits in Advanced-level CTS Computer Science (CSE)
- One or more distinct languages at the 30 level
One additional requirement: Must be from the list above, at the 30 level, and worth at least five credits (multiple courses worth a total of five or more credits can be used). This cannot be a Special Project.

It is important to note that one of the courses included must be Mathematics 30-1 or 30-2.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases. Vietnam International Students: Require at least four years of study with a minimum overall grade of 7/10.

Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure their application is processed in a timely manner.

Language Requirements

The University of Lethbridge has specific English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements for students applying to undergraduate programs. To demonstrate proficiency, applicants can provide evidence through various accepted tests and qualifications. The following are the accepted English language exams:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) with a minimum total score of 86, and a minimum score of 20 in each section.
Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall score of 6.5, and a minimum score of 6.0 in each band. IELTS One Skill Retake results are accepted.
Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced with a minimum score of 176, and a minimum 176 in each subscore.
Cambridge English Qualifications: C2 Proficiency with a minimum score of 176, and a minimum 176 in each subscore.
Academic Pearson Test of English (PTE) with a minimum overall score of 61, and a minimum score of 60 in each part.
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) assessment with a minimum overall score of 70, and a minimum score of 60 in each component.
Duolingo English Test with a minimum overall score of 120, and a minimum score of 110 in each subscore.

For students who do not meet the minimum ELP requirement, the University may offer a conditional admission route, allowing them to enroll in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. Please check with our team for more details.
