Program overview
Earn a degree in Therapeutic Recreation from one of only three programs of its kind in Canada. This program is designed to help students explore careers and gain paid work experience through co-op opportunities. As a recreation therapist, you will work in clinical and long-term care environments, addressing emotional, physical, and social needs through leisure, recreation, and play. Program structure
The Bachelor of Arts in Therapeutic Recreation is structured to be completed in four years as a full-time student. Students have the option to pursue a co-op program, which extends the duration to five years and includes valuable work experience. The program includes:
- A required 105-hour practicum placement
- A required 560-hour internship
- Hands-on experience through practical courses and volunteer placements
- Flexibility to choose from 15 electives across various disciplines
Students can also customize their degree by pursuing areas of focus within the program or by choosing a double major or joint honours. The program is not available online, and most courses are conducted in-person.
