Academic Requirements

To apply for the BA in Gender Studies at the University of Victoria, students should be aware of the following Academic Requirements:

• Students must apply as either a high school student or a transfer student from another post-secondary institution.
• When submitting the application, select Humanities: Major Undeclared. You can declare Gender Studies as your major after completing one or more years of full-time study.
• Alternatively, students may choose another major and add Gender Studies as a minor or certificate to broaden their studies.

For international students, it is important to note that:

• Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

While there is no specific minimum GPA mentioned, it is advisable for students to maintain a strong academic record to enhance their chances of admission.

Language Requirements

All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency to attend UVic. If you need to demonstrate proof of language proficiency, you can do so through academic studies, English language proficiency tests, or programs offered by UVic's English Language Centre (ELC).

English language proficiency can be demonstrated through academic studies as follows:

• Completion of four years of secondary and/or post-secondary full-time academic studies in which all language of instruction is English, in Canada or a recognized English-speaking country.
• Completion of four years of full-time academic studies at a recognized international curriculum secondary school in which all language of instruction is English.
• Completion of a recognized degree program from an accredited university in which all language of instruction is English, in a recognized English-speaking country.
• Completion of Grade 12 English or its equivalent in Canada with a final grade of 86% or higher within the last three years prior to admission.
• Completion of 1.5 or more units of transfer credit for university-level English courses.
• A score of 4 or higher on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Composition.
• A score of 4 or higher on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Literature.
• A score of 4 or higher on IB Higher Level English A.

English language proficiency can also be demonstrated by submitting acceptable scores from the following tests:

• CAEL: 70 (no section less than 60)
• Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 180 (no skill less than 170)
• IELTS Academic: 6.5 (no component less than 6.0)
• MET (4-skill only): 64
• PTE: 65 (no skill less than 60)
• TOEFL iBT: 90 (no section less than 20)
