The Master of Applied Health Services Research (MAHSR) program at UPEI is designed for students aiming to build a career in health research or health services. Program structure

The Master of Applied Health Services Research program offers two streams to accommodate different learning preferences:

Thesis Stream (MAHSR-T): This stream requires students to complete three required courses, two elective courses, and a thesis. Students must also attend one workshop and approximately 12 seminars. A minimum of two semesters of full-time, in-person study at UPEI is required.
Professional Stream (MAHSR-P): This fully online program consists of four required courses, four elective courses, a two-day interactive virtual workshop, and a practicum or capstone project. Monthly seminars are mandatory throughout the Fall and Winter semesters. This stream does not require a thesis or in-person attendance.

The program length varies based on the chosen stream, with the thesis stream typically taking longer due to the research component. Both streams are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of health services research.

Academic Requirements

The Master of Applied Health Services Research (MAHSR) program at UPEI has specific academic requirements for admission, particularly for international students. Below are the key requirements:

Minimum GPA: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or an average of 75% or higher in the last 20 courses.
Degree Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree of four years or a Bachelor’s with honours, or an equivalent professional degree from an approved university is required.
References: Two references are needed as part of the application process.
Statement of Interest: A statement of interest, including research interests, must be submitted.

For international students, particularly those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, it is important to note that:

International applicants must complete their thesis research in-person at UPEI under a UPEI research supervisor for the thesis stream (MAHSR-T).
The professional stream (MAHSR-P) is delivered 100% online and does not meet eligibility to apply for a Canadian study permit. Therefore, international students cannot travel to Canada to take this program.

The University of Prince Edward Island requires all academically admissible applicants to demonstrate proficiency in the English language prior to undertaking studies.
