Program overview
The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) is a collaborative degree offered by the Faculty of Science at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in partnership with the New Brunswick Community College in Saint John (NBCC-SJ). This program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the medical laboratory field. Students will engage in a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical learning with practical experience, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future careers in healthcare.
Program structure
The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science program is structured to provide a balanced education over a four-year period. The program includes:
- Two years of study at NBCC-SJ, focusing on Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT).
- Two years of study at UNB Fredericton, where students will complete advanced coursework.
Students must complete a total of 84 credit hours at UNB, along with the MLT program requirements. To graduate, students are also required to pass the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) exams, which are essential for professional practice. Admission to the program is limited and requires approval from the Dean of Science or the program Director.
