Academic Requirements

For students interested in the Bachelor of Arts - Political Studies (Honours) program, the following Academic Requirements apply:

Minimum GPA: 70% average in best six 4U/M courses for Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) applicants.
For International Students:
- Minimum 7.0 average in Grade 12 for students from Vietnam (only academic courses are taken into average calculation).
- English language proficiency test results are normally required for direct admission to undergraduate studies. However, students in the CBSE curriculum are exempted from providing English Language Proficiency test.
- Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
For students from other Asian countries, please refer to the specific Academic Requirements for your country.

It is important to note that each applicant is reviewed on an individual basis for meeting the English Language Proficiency requirement. Students are encouraged to contact LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding the application process.

Language Requirements

At Trent University, it is essential for students to demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English to succeed in their academic endeavors. All applicants whose first language is not English are required to provide proof of their English language proficiency through recognized tests. Below are the accepted English language proficiency tests along with their respective minimum score requirements:

TOEFL / TOEFL IBT / TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition: 86 IBT with a minimum writing score of 20.
IELTS: 6.5, with no band below 6.0.
The Duolingo English Test: 115 (Note: Duolingo is not accepted by the School of Graduate Studies at Trent, and is only applicable for Undergraduate applications.)
CAEL | CAEL On-line: 60 (starting July 2020).
Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency (Certificate of Advanced English): 176, with no sub-score below 169.
Pearson PTE Academic In-person & Online: 59.
Trent Academic ESL Program: Academic English II with 75% in all courses.

It is important to note that English Language Proficiency requirements are subject to change without prior notice. If you have results from a recognized Canadian University English language testing service, you may submit those results for consideration.

For applicants who do not meet the English proficiency requirements, there is an option to apply for gradual admission through the Trent-ESL: English for University Program, which provides a strong foundation for academic success.
