Academic Requirements

The Academic Requirements for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Professional Music at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) are designed to ensure that students are well-prepared for the challenges of the program and the music industry. Here are the key requirements:

Minimum GPA: Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% is required for admission consideration. However, individual programs may require higher prerequisite grades and/or higher overall averages based on competition.
Academic Requirements: Applicants must possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, including a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses. The following specific courses are required:
- English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
Non-Academic Requirements: This is a Grades-Plus program, meaning that in addition to academic qualifications, applicants must submit:
- A current resumé highlighting education, musical experience, work experience, volunteer experience, and extracurricular activities.
- A portfolio consisting of two parts:
  - Part 1: A statement of intent explaining the applicant's interest in a career in music and their fit for the program (250 words).
  - Part 2: An artistic or music business option, where applicants can choose to submit a demo or write an essay discussing music discovery methods.
- Two reference forms: One from a current or past academic reference and another from a collaborator, supervisor, or employer in a musical or professional capacity.
Application Deadline: The non-academic requirement due date is February 1, 2025, or 10 business days from the application submission date, whichever comes later.
Transcripts: Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
