Program overview

The Early Childhood Education program at St. Lawrence College's Cornwall campus is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to work with children from birth to age 12 and their families. This program combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, ensuring that graduates understand human development and can create inclusive, play-based learning environments. Students will engage in 630 hours of practical experience through three field placements, starting in their first year, allowing them to apply classroom skills in real-world settings. The program is open for international students and offers an online part-time study option for those interested.

The Early Childhood Education program is structured to be completed in 2 years on a full-time basis. The program includes:

  • Three field placements providing hands-on experience in various early learning environments.

  • A comprehensive curriculum that covers child development, health and safety, and effective communication skills.

This program emphasizes the importance of observation, reflection, and the preparation of pedagogical documentation, ensuring that students are well-prepared to support children's development in diverse settings.
