Academic Requirements

The SFU Beedie School of Business has specific Academic Requirements for the Master of Science in Finance program. Here’s what you need to know:

Undergraduate Degree: Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.33 (B) or a GPA of at least 3.33/4.33 (B+) based on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses from a recognized university. All graduate studies are also considered in your application.
GMAT or GRE: Applicants are required to submit scores from one of the following tests: GMAT, GMAT Focus Edition, or GRE. The minimum test scores are:
- GMAT: 550 (Competitive recommendation is 600+)
- GMAT Focus Edition: 515 (Competitive recommendation is 555)
- GRE: 155 in each section
Resume & Work Experience: A current resume is required, detailing academic experience, work experience (including internships), memberships in professional associations, and volunteer activities. Work experience is an asset but not mandatory.
References: Two professional and/or academic references are required. Referees will be contacted automatically after application submission.
Essay: Applicants must respond to essay prompts provided in the application system.
Status in Canada: International students must have a valid Canadian student visa.
Official Documents: Official transcripts must be sent directly from each post-secondary institution attended. Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
Application Deadlines: The application deadlines for Fall 2025 are:
- Early Round: September 26, 2024
- Round 1: November 14, 2024
- Round 2: January 23, 2025
- Round 3: March 13, 2025 (Recommended for international students outside Canada)
- Round 4: May 1, 2025 (Final for international students outside Canada)
- Round 5: May 29, 2025 (Final for domestic students and international students inside Canada)

Language Requirements

The SFU Beedie School of Business requires proof of English language proficiency for applicants whose first language is not English. The following tests and minimum scores are accepted:

Internet-based TOEFL: Minimum score of 90 with at least 20 in each category. Scores must be achieved on a single test date; TOEFL MyBest results will not be accepted.
IELTS (academic): Overall band score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each section.
CAEL: Overall score of 70 with a minimum of 60 in each section.
Pearson Academic (PTE): Overall score of 65 with a minimum of 60 in each section.
Cambridge English Qualifications:
- C1 Advanced - minimum score of 180
- C2 Proficiency - minimum score of 180
Duolingo English Test: Overall score of 125 with a minimum of 105 in each section.

Please note: Candidates who do not meet the English language requirements will be asked to retake the test.
