Academic Requirements

The Honours Bachelor of Craft and Design (Furniture) program at Sheridan has specific academic requirements for prospective students. To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, including the following required courses:
- English, Grade 12 (ENG4U)
- One Visual Arts or Communication Technology credit (TGJ or TGG) at Grade 11 or 12 level (workplace 'E' level not accepted), or a postsecondary Visual Arts credit course or a portfolio.
- Four other Grade 12 credits (U or M).
- A minimum overall average of 65% is required.
Alternatively, applicants may qualify with two semesters of postsecondary education, including the required English and Visual Arts courses, also with a minimum overall average of 65%.

For applicants who have not completed a Visual Arts credit, a portfolio submission may be required. The Office of the Registrar will notify applicants through the Sheridan Application Portal if a portfolio is necessary. Please note that there is a portfolio assessment fee.

Applicants submitting a portfolio must have the English (ENG4U) or equivalent plus five other Grade 12 (U or M) credits. Those who have completed two semesters of an art, design, or architecture-related Ontario College certificate, diploma, or degree program are exempt from submitting a portfolio.

Eligible applicants are selected based on their previous academic achievement, which includes the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including the required courses mentioned above, along with the results of their portfolio if applicable.

For international students, it is advisable to contact LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding the application process and requirements. Additionally, transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

All applicants to Sheridan must demonstrate English-language proficiency. The following English proficiency tests are accepted for the Honours Bachelor Of Craft And Design (Furniture) program:

Sheridan’s EAP program - Level 5 (formerly English for Academic Purposes)
- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: A minimum score of 70% in listening and speaking and 70% in reading and writing.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: A minimum score of 75% in listening and speaking and 75% in reading and writing.
IELTS Academic Level
- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: Overall score 6.0 with no individual band below 5.5.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: Overall score 6.5 with no individual band below 6.0.
TOEFL iBT
- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: Overall score 80 with no individual section below 20.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: Overall score 88 with no individual section below 21.
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language)
- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: Overall score 60 with no individual section below 50.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: Overall score 70 with no individual section below 60.
Duolingo English Language Test
- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: Overall score of 105 with no integrated subscore lower than 85.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: Overall score of 115 with no integrated subscore lower than 95.
