Learn to think critically and analytically about human social life, looking beyond views that are often taken for granted in day-to-day interactions. Our Sociology, Technology and Innovation program provides you with the opportunity to explore a wide range of issues, such as the nature of gender identity, racism and class, conflict, shared beliefs, the social implications of the internet and technology, forms of governance and social control, and their impacts on societies and communities.

Program structure

The Sociology, Technology and Innovation program is designed to be completed in four semesters on a full-time basis. This program is delivered in-class at Ontario Tech University, located in Downtown Oshawa. Students can expect to engage in a variety of learning experiences, including:

  • Experiential work term
  • Internship opportunities
  • Practicum courses

This structure allows students to gain practical experience while they learn, enhancing their understanding of the complex interactions between society and technology.

  • A limited number of fourth-year students can participate in a practicum course, which includes 100 hours of fieldwork with community organizations.

  • Over 175 organizations provide placement opportunities for students, ensuring a diverse range of experiences.
  • Approximately 90% of students are employed within six months of graduation, showcasing the program's effectiveness in preparing graduates for the workforce.
