Program overview

The Law, Technology and Society program at Ontario Tech University offers students a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of law and technology. This program delves into emerging sociolegal issues that arise from rapid technological advancements, such as intellectual property, cybercrimes, privacy laws, and economic espionage. Students will critically examine how these issues are mediated through law and the social roles of law in relation to community, government, and society. The program emphasizes the importance of promoting justice, active citizenship, and respect for diversity, equipping students with the skills necessary for a career in legal research, policy analysis, and human rights advocacy.

Program structure

The Law, Technology and Society program is designed to be completed in four or five years, depending on the chosen path. Students can opt for a full-time study load and have the flexibility to start in either September or January. The program is delivered in-class at Ontario Tech University, located in Downtown Oshawa. Students have the option to participate in a direct-entry co-op program, which allows them to gain practical experience through full-time, paid employment opportunities while studying. Additionally, experiential learning components such as internships, practicums, research studies, and undergraduate theses are integral to the program, providing students with hands-on experience in the field.
