Program overview

Advance your knowledge on the role of exercise to improve and maintain the health, functional capacity, and overall well-being of a variety of populations. The Kinesiology Advanced Entry - OTA and PTA program is designed to help students understand the safe application of exercise for health maintenance, improvement, and rehabilitation. Graduates will be prepared to become kinesiology practitioners who can prescribe individualized exercise programs for both healthy and clinical populations. This program is recognized as a regulated health profession in Ontario, providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to function as health professionals and to write the competency exam to become a registered kinesiologist.

Program structure

The Kinesiology Advanced Entry - OTA and PTA program is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a duration of six semesters. This full-time program is delivered in-class at Ontario Tech University, North Oshawa, with a start date in September. Key features of the program include:

  • Experiential learning opportunities through internships.
  • Hands-on learning in modern facilities, including the Kinesiology Teaching Laboratory.
  • Elective courses that allow for specializations in Exercise Science and Rehabilitation and/or Biomechanics and Ergonomics.

Students will engage in both theoretical and practical examinations, preparing them for certifications from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, such as Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Exercise Physiologist.

  • Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP): Work with clients to develop and implement exercise programs tailored to their health needs.

  • Fitness and Health Promotion Specialist: Design and lead fitness programs aimed at enhancing overall health and wellness.
