Automotive Service Technician

Academic Requirements

To apply for the Automotive Service Technician program, applicants must meet the following Academic Requirements:

• Manitoba high school diploma (or expected completion within 45 days of the program start date), or equivalent.
• Grade 12 Math (40S) with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.
• Grade 12 English Language Arts (40S) with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.

For international students, the following additional requirements apply:

• Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Trung Học Phổ Thông (Graduation Diploma for General Upper Secondary Education) / Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Trung Học Dạy Nghề (Technical and Vocational High School Certificate)
• Senior level Math with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.
• Senior level First Language Literature with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.
• All high school grades will be converted to an equivalent Manitoba grade scale.
• Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Students needing to upgrade any of these high school requirements may contact one of MITT’s Adult Learning Centres (ALC) for assistance.

It is important to note that a grade of C in each course is required to progress in, and graduate from, the Automotive Service Technician program. Additionally, students who meet all program-specific practicum eligibility criteria will qualify to participate in a five-week practicum placement, which is a mandatory component of this program.

Language Requirements

To apply for the Automotive Service Technician program at MITT, applicants must demonstrate English Language Proficiency. This is essential for ensuring that students can fully engage in the program's activities and coursework. The following English language tests are accepted:

• CAEL CE & CAEL Online (Canadian Academic English Assessment) - Minimum score of 60
• Cambridge C1 Advanced (Formerly Cambridge English Advanced (CAE)) - Scale Score of 180 / Grade of C
• Duolingo English Test (DET) - Minimum overall score of 110
• IELTS (Academic) - Minimum score of 6.0 overall, with no band less than 5.5
• PTE Academic & PTE Academic Online (Pearson Test of English Academic) - Minimum score of 54
• TOEFL iBT/iBT Home Edition (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based) - Overall score of 78, with no less than 17 in each component

It is important to note that official test results must be sent directly from the testing center to the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology. Additionally, tests taken more than two years prior to the anticipated start date of the program will not be considered.
