Academic Requirements

To gain admission into the Bachelor of Science - Human Biosciences program at Memorial University, prospective students must meet specific criteria. Here are the key requirements:

Direct entry into the Faculty of Science from high school requires meeting the general Academic Requirements for Memorial University, which includes appropriate high school courses in mathematics and a laboratory science.
For current Memorial students wishing to apply for the Human Biosciences major, the following courses must be completed with a minimum overall average of 60%:

Six credit hours in critical reading and writing (CRW) courses, including at least three credit hours in English.
Chemistry 1050 and 1051 (or 1200 and 1001).
Mathematics 1000 or 1006.
Biology 1001.
Biology 1002 or Human Biosciences 1001 (or Biochemistry 1600).

Students must also be eligible for entry to Chemistry 2400.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

It is important to note that students cannot choose Human Biosciences as their major at the time of application. Admission into the major requires the completion of university-level courses as outlined above.

Language Requirements

English language proficiency for general admission may be demonstrated through a valid score on one of the following standardized tests taken within two years prior to the start of the semester of admission. Final results should be submitted based on the instructions listed with each test.

Cambridge English Language Assessment: A minimum score of 176 in C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency. Submission: Certificate should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment: A minimum overall score of 60. Submission: Official score report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Duolingo English Test (DET): A minimum overall score of 115. Submission: Upon receipt of your certified test results, you should send the results from your Duolingo account to Memorial University of Newfoundland.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS Academic or IELTS Academic for UKVI with at least a band 6 in reading and writing. General Training results are not acceptable. Submission: Test report form should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Michigan English Test (MET): A minimum score of 59 is required on the MET. Submission: Document must be sent directly from official testing authority to the Office of the Registrar by post or courier.
Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE ACADEMIC): A minimum overall score of 60. Submission: Score Report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A minimum score of 83 on the TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home Edition, with a minimum score of 20 in reading and writing. Submission: Score Report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
