This program prepares students to work as early childhood educators alongside young children and families, combining theory with practical experiences in child development, play-based learning, and responsive care. Program structure
The Early Childhood Education program at Medicine Hat College offers two options:
- One-year certificate program (Level 2 Certified)
- Two-year diploma program (Level 3 Certified)
Both programs are designed to provide certification under Alberta Family and Social Services and are recognized throughout Alberta and across Canada. The program is delivered in person and includes:
- Hands-on experiences in each semester
- Practicum placements to apply learned skills in real-world settings
- Reflective practice to enhance personal and professional development
Students are required to complete a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a First Aid Certificate before starting their practicum placements. The program intake occurs in the fall.
