Academic Requirements

To gain admission to the M.Sc. in Geology - Thesis-based option, applicants must meet the following requirements:

A B.Sc. Honours degree with a minimum B average.
Students in this program cannot transfer into the M.Sc. Mineral Exploration one-year option.

For the M.Sc. in Mineral Exploration - Accelerated option, the following criteria apply:

Restricted to geoscientists holding a B.Sc. honours degree in the Earth Sciences with a minimum B average.
Students must be enrolled as full-time students.

For the M.Sc. in Mineral Exploration - Two-year option, the requirements are:

Restricted to geoscientists holding a B.Sc. honours degree in the Earth Sciences with a minimum B average.
Applicants must have at least two years of industry or equivalent experience.
Students in this option are part-time.

Additionally, please note that transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

If English is not your first language or mother tongue, you should provide evidence of your English language proficiency through one of the entry requirements or language tests below.

Academically admissible applicants who do not present appropriate English Proficiency Requirements will be automatically offered a conditional offer of admission based on completion of the English for Academic Preparation (EAP) program in Laurentian University’s Language Institute.

IELTS Academic - 6.5 overall, no band lower than 6.0
Cambridge Assessment English - C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a Cambridge Score of 176 or more
CAEL - 70 overall, no part below 60
Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees - CanTEST - 4.5 overall, no part below 4
PTE Academic - 60 overall
DuoLingo English Test - 125 overall, no Individual Subscore in Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening lower than 110

Note: English language test scores are valid if completed within 2 years of when we review your application.

We require official test scores sent by the testing agency directly to Laurentian University’s Office of Admissions. Faxes, email copies, and student copies of test scores are not accepted as official documents for admission.
