Master Of Architecture - Architecture (co-op) (Only For Onshore Students)

Academic Requirements

To apply for the Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) program at Laurentian University, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

• Minimum GPA: An overall GPA of at least 70% (minimum Laurentian University GPA 5.5) is required to be admitted into the M.Arch. program.
• Pre-Professional Degree: All applicants seeking direct entry into the 2-year M.Arch Program must have a pre-professional architecture degree (i.e., BAS, BES, BEDS, etc.).
• References: Three (3) references are required to begin the application process.
• Curriculum Vitae: A current curriculum-vitae/resume must be uploaded via MyLaurentian.
• Letter of Intent: A 1-2 page letter expressing the area(s) of design the applicant wishes to focus on for graduate work and reasons for choosing the McEwen School of Architecture.

For applicants who hold or will hold a BAS and are continuing to the M.Arch after the program at Laurentian, a design portfolio showing creative and design skills, technical knowledge, and relevant professional experience is also required.

For those applying from outside the BAS program, official transcripts indicating the previous pre-professional architecture degree must be submitted. Additionally, a design portfolio is required, detailing the applicant's creative and design skills.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

International students with limited or no experience in cold climate construction may be recommended to the Architecture Qualifying Year. All applicants should apply directly to the Masters of Architecture program and will be considered on an individual basis.

Language Requirements

Laurentian University offers courses in English or French. When pursuing a program, you must demonstrate your proficiency in one of these two languages.

The Office of Admissions reserves the right to request the submission of an approved language test at any time if deemed necessary.

Academically admissible applicants who do not present the appropriate English proficiency requirements can complete one of the following approved English proficiency tests:

• Internet-based TOEFL (iBT & iBT @ Home Edition) - Test Of English as a Foreign Language:
  • 88 overall
  • As of January 1st, 2026, an overall score of 4.5, with a minimum of 5.0 for Writing and Speaking.
• IELTS Academic and IELTS One-Skill Retake - International English Language Testing System:
  • 6.5 overall
  • No band lower than 6.0
• Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a Cambridge Score of 176 or more.
• CAEL - Canadian Academic English Language Assessment:
  • 70 overall
  • No part below 60
• Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees - CanTEST:
  • 4.5 overall
  • No part below 4
• PTE Academic - Pearson Test of English:
  • 60 overall
• DuoLingo English Test:
  • 120 overall
  • No Individual Subscore in Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening lower than 110
• Oxford English Language Level Test (ELLT):
  • 7 score
  • No band below 6
