Academic Requirements

Applicants for Direct Entry into the 2-year M.Arch Program must meet specific criteria due to accreditation requirements. Here are the essential Academic Requirements:

• An overall GPA of at least 70% (minimum Laurentian University GPA of 5.5) is required to be admitted into the M.Arch. program.
• All applicants seeking direct entry must have a pre-professional architecture degree (i.e., BAS, BES, BEDS, etc.).
• Applicants with a 4-year degree in architecture or a closely related field from a non-pre-professional program will be considered for acceptance into an Architecture Qualifying Year.
• Three (3) references are required, which must be submitted electronically through the MyLaurentian portal.
• A current curriculum-vitae/resume must be uploaded via MyLaurentian.
• A 1-2 page letter expressing the area(s) of design the applicant wishes to focus on for graduate work and reasons for choosing the McEwen School of Architecture is required.
• For those who hold or will hold a BAS and are continuing to the M.Arch after the program at Laurentian, a Design Portfolio showcasing creative and design skills, technical knowledge, and relevant professional experience must be submitted electronically via Issuu.
• For applicants from outside the BAS program, official transcripts indicating the previous pre-professional architecture degree or previous undergraduate degree (if applying to the Architecture Qualifying Year) must be submitted.
• Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

International students, particularly those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, should ensure they meet these requirements and may need to provide additional documentation as specified by the university. For any clarification and support, please contact LOA Portal's advisors.

Language Requirements

To meet the English language proficiency requirements for the Master of Architecture - Architecture (co-op) program, applicants must provide evidence through one of the following accepted tests:

• Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) - Minimum score of 88 overall
• IELTS Academic - Minimum score of 6.5 overall, with no band lower than 6.0
• Cambridge Assessment English - C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a Cambridge Score of 176 or more
• CAEL - Minimum score of 70 overall, with no part below 60
• Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST) - Minimum score of 4.5 overall, with no part below 4
• PTE Academic - Minimum score of 60 overall
• DuoLingo English Test - Minimum score of 125 overall, with no individual subscore in Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening lower than 110

Academically admissible applicants who do not present appropriate English Proficiency Requirements will be automatically offered a conditional offer of admission based on completion of the English for Academic Preparation (EAP) program in Laurentian University’s Language Institute.
