Academic Requirements

For international students interested in applying to the Bachelor of Arts - Foundations in The New Liberal Arts program, here are the key Academic Requirements:

• Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
• Students must provide documentation that reflects their academic history and qualifications.
• In determining admissibility, King’s University College at Western reserves the right to take all submitted documentation into account including English Proficiency Tests, repeated courses, and all other aspects of the student’s academic record.
• If evidence of falsified documentation is found, the institution reserves the right to deny admission, withdraw an offer of admission, offer of scholarship, and/or cancel a student’s course registration.
• Previous submission of falsified or fraudulent documentation may be considered in future applications made to the institution.

Language Requirements

Students admitted to King's University College must be proficient in written and spoken English. If English is not your first language, you must provide proof of your proficiency in listening to, speaking, writing, and reading English. Typically, this is done through an official test or ESL program. We reserve the right to ask you to provide proof of English language proficiency.

• I.E.L.T.S. (International English Language Testing System)

IELTS Academic is required with a minimum overall band score of 6.5, with no part less than 6.0.

• T.O.E.F.L. (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

You must achieve a written TOEFL score of 580 or higher and a score of 4.5 on the TWE, or a score of 83 on the Internet-based Test (iBT) with no section less than 20.

• C.A.E.L. (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment)

You will need a minimum score of 60, with no part less than 60.

• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)

You will need a minimum overall score of 58, with no score less than 56.

• Duolingo

You will need a minimum score of 115 overall, with a minimum of 100 for each subscore.

• Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency

You will need a minimum overall score of 176, with a minimum of 169 in each section.

Can I get an English Language Proficiency Test exemption?

Maybe! One of these statements must be true for you:

• I attended four full-time years of secondary school in English
• I attended two full-time years of an Ontario college in English
• I attended one full-time year of university in English
• I completed an AP English exam with a score of 4 or higher
• I completed an IB English HL (A1 or A2)
• I completed an IB English SL with a predicted or final score of 4 or higher
• I completed a GCE AS (Advanced Subsidiary) or A Level (Advanced Level) English with minimum predicted or final grade of A
• I completed an IGCSE O Level (Ordinary Level) English with minimum final grade of A

*Note: IGCSE and GCE English as an Additional Language are not accepted.
