Academic Requirements

The Law Enforcement Studies Diploma (LESD) program has specific academic requirements that applicants must meet to be considered for admission. Here are the key requirements:

Applicants must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, or hold a valid Study Permit for international students.
High school graduation or equivalent is required, with an official transcript needed for verification.
Grade 12 English with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent) is mandatory.
An essay of 250 words outlining the reasons for wanting to join the Law Enforcement Studies Diploma program must be submitted with the application.
Completion of a Criminal Record Check is necessary. Only an original hard copy document from a local RCMP or Municipal Police Department is accepted. Online verified, web-based Criminal Record Checks are not accepted.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

For international students, the following additional requirements apply:

Applicants in Grade 12 can submit their interim transcript as part of their application until they receive their final high school transcript.
All previous post-secondary transcripts must be submitted, and official sealed transcripts are required.
An in-person interview and assessment to determine suitability may be required, and related work experience or study will enhance the application.

Language Requirements

To gain admission into the Law Enforcement Studies (LESD) Diploma program at JIBC, students must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language proficiency. The following English Language proficiency tests are accepted:

IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 overall, minimum of 6.0 in each skill band
TOEFL (iBT) - 80 overall, minimum 20 in each skill band
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A) - 58 overall, minimum of 48 in Listening; 53 in Reading; 46 in Speaking; and 62 in Writing
Duolingo English Test - Minimum overall score of 120. Official test scores must be sent directly to JIBC.
Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL) - 60 overall, minimum 50 in each skill band
Cambridge English Exams - Complete C1 Advanced with a score of C
Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLB) - Minimum 7 in each skill band
ITEP Academic - Minimum score of 3.9
LanguageCert Academic - 73 overall, minimum of 65 in each skill band

Note: English proficiency tests must have been completed within 24 months of the program start date.
