Academic Requirements

To apply for the Opticianry program at Georgian College, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status
Grade 12 English (C or U)
Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U)
Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U) or Grade 11 (U) or Grade 12 (C or U) Chemistry or Grade 11 or 12 (U), or Grade 12 (C) Physics

It is important to note that applicants must meet minimum averages to receive final acceptance into the program. First-year enrolment is limited, and satisfying minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission.

For international students, particularly those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, it is advisable to contact LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding specific requirements and processes.

Additionally, transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

For those interested in the selection process, it is based on admission requirements and academic grades. Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school applicants may also be considered for admission based on equivalent courses, upgrading, completed GED, and equivalency testing.

Language Requirements

The language of instruction at Georgian College is English. All applicants for whom English is not their first language must provide proof of language proficiency. To meet Georgian’s language proficiency requirements, applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria:

Must have completed three full years of study at the secondary school (high school) level in English in a country where English is a primary language.
Must have completed one full year of study in an accredited postsecondary program in English in a country where English is a primary language.
Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or Canadian provincial equivalent) and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued by a public or Catholic school board.
Provide proof of graduation from one of the authorized Georgian College partner school pathway programs.
Must have completed two years of study at a secondary private school in Ontario and received an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C).
