Program Overview

George Brown College’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is designed specifically for international students aiming to enhance their English language skills. Classes are held Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., providing a consistent schedule for students. The program offers multiple starting months, including January, March, May, July, September, and October, ensuring flexibility for incoming students.

As students advance to Levels 7 or 8, they have the option to choose from various pathways, including:

Continuing in the post-secondary stream of the EAP program
Pursuing English for Business Studies

Each semester lasts for 16 weeks, covering two levels, and students are required to take an official English exam (IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo) to determine their starting level. Academic Requirements

For the General Arts and Science – English for Academic Purposes program (R115) at George Brown College, the following Academic Requirements apply:

Applicants must provide a valid passport.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older at the start of classes and complete a placement test.
Starting in May 2025, the College's EAP level placement test will no longer be offered. Applicants are now required to submit an English proficiency test result (IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, or Duolingo) prior to enrolling in the program.
Applicants must meet a minimum required test score and minimum starting level to enroll in the program. The minimum required test score and minimum starting EAP level depend on the applicant's selected session start date.

For international students, it is important to note:

Conditional admission may be offered to applicants from eligible countries who do not meet George Brown’s English language requirements. This is through the EAP program.
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for the diploma/degree/postgraduate program they are applying for and submit the required supporting documents.
Once accepted into the EAP program, students will need to contact their admissions officer at the International Centre to re-initiate their post-secondary program application based on their EAP placement test results.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
