Program Overview

The Carpentry – Building Construction Technician program at Durham College is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the construction industry. This program emphasizes green building principles, focusing on creating energy-efficient and environmentally responsible homes using sustainable materials. Students will gain hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge, preparing them for a successful career in carpentry and building construction.

Program Structure

The Carpentry – Building Construction Technician program is structured over four semesters, providing a comprehensive education in building construction techniques. The program includes:

  • In-person delivery of courses
  • Co-op option available, allowing students to gain practical experience
  • Integration of academic learning with workplace learning through co-op placements

Students will have the opportunity to apply for the co-op option during their first semester, with a competitive selection process. Those who secure a co-op position will complete a four-month paid work term between their second and third semesters. This hands-on experience is invaluable for building professional networks and applying classroom knowledge in real-world settings. After the co-op term, students will return to complete their final two academic semesters before graduation.
