Academic Requirements
For international students applying to the BA&BSC - Concentration in History program at Crandall University, the following Academic Requirements must be met:
- International applicants are required to have completed a preparatory program that leads to university entrance in their own country.
- Generally, an academic language arts course and a minimum of four additional university-preparatory courses are required.
- Secondary school applicants need to have achieved in their final year of schooling an average of 70% (5 best scoring academic subjects).
- Applicants who are looking to transfer from another post-secondary institution are required to have an overall GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.3 scale).
- Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
For students from Vietnam, the following specific requirement applies:
- Upper Secondary School Graduation Certificate with a minimum score of 7.
It is important to note that Crandall University assesses international applicants on an individual basis, as requirements may vary by country. Successful completion of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

English Language Proficiency
English is the language of instruction at Crandall University. Students must possess a mastery of English sufficient to communicate effectively, follow lectures, and write assignments and examinations in English.
Possession of minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission to Crandall University. International applicants must submit proof of ability to follow a university program taught in English. If English is not your first language, please submit official test reports with required scores. Listed below are English language proficiency tests available to international students:
Required scores by testing system:
- IELTS – Academic: minimum overall score of 6.5 with no area less than 6.0. (International English Language Testing System)
- TOEFL-IBT: minimum 90 overall, minimum 21 in each area. (Internet-Based Test)
- TOEFL-CBT: minimum 236 overall, minimum TWE 4.5. (Computer-Based Test)
- TOEFL-PBT: minimum 580 overall, minimum TWE 4.5. (Paper-Based Test)
- CAN-Test: minimum 4.5 overall, minimum 4.0 in each area. (Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees)
- CAEL: minimum band 70 overall, minimum 60 in each area. (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment)
- CLB: minimum 9 overall, minimum 8 in each area. (Canadian Language Benchmarks)
- Duolingo: minimum 115 overall, minimum 95 in each area.
- Cambridge English Scale: minimum overall score of 176 from C1 Advanced. No less than 169 in any paper.
- PTE (Pearson) Academic: minimum score of 56 overall.
Exemptions
Exemptions to the English Language Proficiency Requirements apply to the following:
- The applicant is not required to provide an English testing result when applying from one of the following countries:
- American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, Brunei, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon (with proof of instruction in English), Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, England, Falkland Island, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guam, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, Lesotho, Malta, Mauritius, Montserrat, New Zealand, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Pacific Island Trust Territory, Puerto Rico, Rwanda, Ryukyu Island, Seychelles, Singapore, Sierra Leone, South Africa, St. Helena, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Scotland, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks & Caicos Islands, Uganda, United States, Virgin Islands, Wales, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
- Successful completion of one year (30 credit hours) of post-secondary education in Canada (or an approved country above).
- The applicant has successfully graduated from a Canadian secondary school with a year 12 English grade of 70% or higher.
International Students not meeting the language requirements may still apply!
Applicants who meet Crandall University’s academic requirements but have not provided proof of English language proficiency may be granted a conditional offer of admission if they are enrolled in a pathway program. Students may complete a university-preparatory English language program at a partner Language Centre. Applicants must provide sufficient proof of English language proficiency before a full offer of admission may be granted. Students may also choose to study in their home country and retake their language test.
Once Crandall’s English language proficiency requirements have been met, a revised offer will be issued for studies for the next available intake.
