Academic Requirements

The Bachelor of Technology Construction Management (BTech CM) program has specific Academic Requirements that applicants must meet. This program is designed as a degree completion program, providing the final two years of a four-year degree. Here are the key requirements:

• Minimum GPA: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 67% in their previous post-secondary education.
• International Students: This program is open to international applicants. They must provide proof of their educational credentials, which may require evaluation by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
• Pathways to Admission: There are four pathways for admission:
  • Option A: A construction-related diploma or degree with a minimum GPA of 67% and at least one year of work experience in the construction industry.
  • Option B: An unrelated diploma or degree with a minimum GPA of 67%, completion of the Construction Operations Associate Certificate program at BCIT, and at least one year of work experience in the construction industry.
  • Option C: An unrelated diploma or degree with a minimum GPA of 67% and a minimum of eight years of North American construction management experience.
  • Option D: Red Seal certification in an approved trade, completion of specific math courses, and at least one year of work experience in the construction industry.
• Prerequisite Courses: Applicants must meet specific prerequisite courses depending on their chosen pathway. For example, completion of Pre-Calculus 11 or equivalent is required for Option D.

Language Requirements

To apply for the Construction Management program at BCIT, you must demonstrate proficiency in English. The following assessments are accepted for English Language Proficiency (ELP) under Category 1, which is applicable for this program:

• English Studies 12 or English First People 12 or Acceptable equivalent high school course: 73%
• BCIT English Competency Assessment (COMM 0015 and COMM 0033): 80%
• COMM 1009 – Technical Writing: Definitions, Instructions and Process Descriptions: 73%
• COMM 1103 – Introduction to Business and Technical Communication: 73%
• COMM 1106 – Introduction to Business and Technical Communication (With Language Development Component): 73%
• BCIT Professional English Language Development (PELD) (COMM 0030 and COMM 0005): 80%
• COMM 0007 – Introductory Communication for Technology Entry and COMM 0016 – Communication with ELT: 73%
• BCIT Technical Academic English (TAE) 5 (International Student Entry Program - ISEP): 70%
• Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test: 80 overall band score with no component below 70
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic only): Overall score 7, no band less than 6.0
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): Overall score 65, no skill score less than 60
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT): Overall score 90, no section score less than 20
• Duolingo English Test: 130 overall, no integrated subscore less than 105
• Cambridge Assessment English (BCIT ISEP Online test - Cambridge Linguaskill): C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with minimum overall score of 185
