Academic Requirements

The Business Administration - General Business Major program has specific academic requirements that prospective students must meet to be eligible for admission. Below are the details:

• Credit in English Language Arts 30-1 or a minimum of 65% in English Language Arts 30-2 or equivalent.
• Credit in Math 30-1 or Math 30-2 or equivalent.
• Alternatively, successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test is acceptable, which consists of five tests with the following minimum scores:
  • Language Arts: Reading and Writing: 520 minimum standard score
  • Math Test: 520 minimum score
• Satisfactory results on the Bow Valley College Admission and Placement Test.
• Completion of 30 credits from a recognized business program (departmental approval required).

For international students, it is essential to check whether your previous studies completed outside Canada meet the admission requirements using the country-specific document list.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

Before you apply for the Business Administration - General Business Major program at Bow Valley College, it is essential to meet the English language proficiency requirements. The following English language tests are accepted:

• BVC Academic English 1: Not accepted
• BVC Academic English 2: Minimum grade of Grade B-
• CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks): 8 in each strand (listening, speaking, reading, writing)
• Duolingo: 110
• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 83
• IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing Service): 6.0 with minimum band score 6.0
• Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59 - 64

Additionally, you can meet the language requirements through:

• Successful completion of an Alberta Education English Language Arts course (or equivalent from education in Canada) that aligns with the specified academic admission requirements for the career program.
• Transcripts showing three (3) years of full-time high school where English was the language of instruction.
• Transcripts demonstrating successful completion of one (1) year of full-time post-secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction.
• SAIT English Language Foundations (ELF) Level 5 to Bow Valley College Admission: ELF Level 5 (Communications 5 - COMN155 & Speech - SPCH155) with a minimum grade of 75% (B).
• Global Village Global Village Pathway Program: Level 6 (GV6) with a minimum grade of 80%.

Note: English language test results are valid for two (2) years from the day of testing. Results that expire before the program start date cannot be accepted. Official results must be submitted.
